Webcam
A webcam is a small digital camera attached to any computer that is
connected to the Internet. It is mainly used to take pictures and make short
films of the surrounding area or the camera's owner and post them in
(almost) real time to the world wide web. Other uses might include chatting,
security, and video conferences over the Internet.
The first webcam was pointed at the 'Trojan room coffee pot' at the computer
science department of Cambridge University. The camera was installed in 1991
and was connected to the Internet in 1993. On August 22, 2001 it was finally
switched off.
